Greener Events GuideWritten by Phil Harding and others whilst Phil was working at the Government Office for the South West in Bristol, when it was first launched in July 2005 this was the first publicly available practical guide on how to reduce the environmental impact of conferences, seminars and other events. Preceding any formal management standards for making events more sustainable (i.e. BS 8901 and ISO 20121), it was quickly adopted by the events industry (e.g. the Association of Event Venues and the Association of British Professional Conference Organisers) who appreciated its short and practical approach and in particular the simple but effective checklist that you can download here:-
Recognising that event managers would wish to avoid wasting all the effort and resources that had gone into their events, Phil also produced companion guides on "7 Dos and Don'ts for using PowerPoint slides at conferences" and "Achieving success from exhibiting at events". These can be downloaded here:-
Here are some of the comments received about the guide: ...one of the best resources we have found ...the Association of British Professional Conference Organisers is pleased to recommend use of this guide ...a significant amount of new conference business has been won as a result of the Greener Events guide ...very helpful and refreshingly to the point ...the checklist gave us some good ideas... ...good sensible guidance on this vital topic... there is nothing quite as ineffective as a high carbon event on low carbon! |
